New in Town: Key West Restaurants & Food Tours

What’s new in Key West?  That’s one of the first questions we get asked by our friends who come back to visit each year.  While we can’t list everything new in town we do want to highlight some new restaurants, hot spots and tours that take you around the island by land and sea.

Lucy’s Retired Surfers Bar & Restaurant

If you were a fan of Finnegan’s Wake on the corner of Grinnell Street, we have some sad news for you.  Finnegan’s is no longer.  The good news is that Lucy’s Retired Surfers Bar & Restaurant has taken it’s place and given that corner a fresh new look.   Don’t let the name fool you as this is a family friendly fun place to eat and drink.  The minute you walk in the door you get that surfer vibe and you are immediately taken to a vacation state of mind.  Lucy’s offers up great food, drinks in a casual surfboard kind of setting.  They serve lunch, dinner and also brunch. It’s another great place, off the beaten path, to also enjoy Happy Hour and live music.  After you visit Lucy’s you’ll walk with a smile on your face and say to yourself, this was a fun place to eat and drink in Key West.

Thirsty Mermaid

One block off Duval on the corner of Fleming and Bahama Street is where you’ll find a cool new dining spot called the Thirsty Mermaid Raw Bar & Restaurant.  The menu offers a full raw bar selection of oysters from East and West coasts, fresh local seafood, USDA Prime Burgers, small plates and appetizers, salads and sandwiches along with an extensive list of craft beers and wines.  Lunch and dinner menu is served all day.

Don’t let the small creative space fool you as this restaurant is filled with big flavors and a must visit while in Key West and the service is top notch!  Don’t believe us, here’s what Texas Hemmaplardh had to say about Thirsty Mermaid on Google: “Fresh food that’s a notch above, great service, bright location that’s as laid back as Key West, yet upscale. I’ll be back!

Mangoes

Something old is new again!  At the corner of Angela and Duval Street in the heart of Old Town Key West sits Mangoes Restaurant.  It’s under new management with an updated decor in and old setting.  It’s the people-watching place to enjoy good food with friends while watching the visitors to the island take a stroll on Duval Street.

Of course we have to talk about the food and this restaurant is all about Key West Island Cuisine!  What exactly does that mean?  It’s native natural local cuisine, which is a blend of Bahamian, Cuban, West Indies, and Key West.  Executive Chef Martin Liz, a true Key West Conch, has created a menu inspired by traditional Conch and Caribbean dishes, using local indigenous ingredients.

“Great job! I came in for lunch and it was so good I came back for dinner that night. Great vibe. Great staff. Great food. Congratulations.” ~ David Sloan ~ Facebook Review
