There are so many reasons why summertime in Key West is one of the best times to travel to paradise. It is much more quieter than winter months but just as exciting as Key West tops the list of summertime celebrations and festivals for foodies, literary buffs, lobster lovers, craft beer enthusiasts and and long time Fantasy Fest revelers.
Here are Five reasons why you should be enjoying #somolife and visiting Key West this summer:
1. HEMINGWAY DAYS FESTIVAL – July 19 – 24, 2016
“In order to write about life first you must live It.” ~ Ernest Hemingway
Hemingway Days Festival, Key West, Florida, celebrates the spirit, art and work of one of America’s most influential writers Ernest Hemingway, who lived and wrote on the island in the 1930’s.
Don’t be surprised to see dozens of white-bearded Hemingway look-a-likes out on the town during the week. Some of the event highlights include:

2. The Key Lime Festival of the Florida Keys July 2-4, 2016
Fourth of July Celebrations in Key West just got sweeter as we celebrate Key Lime Pie in paradise during the 4th of July holiday weekend.
A little bit of history for you… Key Lime Pie is believed to have originated in Key West in the late 1800s and Key lime pie was designated Florida’s official pie in 2006 by the state legislature.
Primary ingredients of Key Lime Pie are: condensed milk, egg yolks and Key lime juice, with the creamy filling typically nestled in a graham cracker crust and topped with whipped cream or meringue.
We Love Key Lime Pie, Key Lime Cocktails…
Yes, Key Lime is so popular that it has its own festival and what better way to celebrate this citrus delight than with us in Key West.
The Key Lime Festival continues to grow and this year the event schedule is filled with fun, quirky, tasty culinary events that include:
Key Lime Cocktail Sip & Stroll, The Key Lime Pie Hop, Intimate culinary events including Key Lime Cooking with Chef Paul Menta, Key Lime Rum Sampling, Distillery Tour & Cookbook Signing, Mile High Key Lime Pie Eatin’ Contest, Key Lime WitNess Tasting & Brewery Tour,
The Southernmost Beach Cafe Sunday Brunch Special!
Southernmost Beach Resort Key Lime Margarita: Horinitos Lime Tequila, Keke Beach Liqour, splash of OJ and sour mix.
Southernmost Beach Cafe is proud to be a sponsor of the festival and on Sunday, July 3rd from 10am – 2pm the Chef will be creating a special Key Lime French Toast as one of the featured brunch specials.
If you are unable to make the festival this year don’t worry, Southernmost Beach Resort Bars and Southernmost Beach Cafe Restaurant will always have a Key Lime Cocktail on the menu. We’ll toast to that!

3. Lobster Lovers Beware! Key West Lobster Fest August 11-14, 2016
The center of attention during these four days in August is our favorite crustacean the Lobster. Thousands will come to Key West to party and celebrate the official opening of lobster season.
If you were not a lover of lobster before attending Key West Lobsterfest you will be after! Here’s what you can expect during the festival:
Four days of Lobster Lovin Events by land and sea including: Lobster Boil, decadent Lobster Brunch, Lobsterfest Vintner’s Dinner, Catamaran Sail and Snorkel Trips, Duval Crawl, Street Fair and Concert.
What to wear
Don’t be surprised to see everyone wearing some fun and funky lobster attire. There will be the Lobsterfest T-Shirts and you’ll be able to purchase lobster paraphernalia at the street fair. Lobster earrings, head bands with lobster claws, the list goes on and on.
Our recommendation is to dress comfortable – t-shirt, shorts and flip-flops. Accessorize with hat and don’t’ forget the sunglasses and sunscreen. It’s hot out there but don’t forget you’re in cool Key West!
Make sure to enjoy the live music, street fair, arts and crafts and of course enjoy the many lobster culinary creations in honor of our favorite crustacean.

4. 7th Annual Key West Brewfest | Cheers to a Good Cause. September 1-5, 2016
We can’t believe the 7th Annual Key West Brewfest is around the corner and that’s because the founding father of Key West Brewfest just happens to be Matt Babich, General Manager of Southernmost Beach Resort.
Seven years ago Matt was also the President of the Key West Sunrise Rotary Club and wanted to create a festival event that would also help raise funds for Rotary. What better time to create a festival in Key West than Labor Day … well, that is the shorter version of the story. Head over to Keywestbrewfest.com and watch the video to learn how it started.
The impact Key West Brewfest has had on the island goes beyond the love of craft beer. This festival has raised over $200,000 to benefit the Key West Sunrise Rotary Club and their charitable efforts.
As Key West Brewfest enters its 7th year, so does the relationship between the Southernmost Beach Resort team and the Key West Sunrise Rotary Club of the Conch Republic as together they host Key West BrewFest, September 1 – 5, 2016.
What you can expect at Key West Brewfest:
Guests and visitors can expect a holiday weekend filled with events from beer dinners, beer brunches, happy hour parties, pool parties, late-night parties, seminars and the Signature Tasting Festival Event on the beach are some of the great activities we have on tap for you! And, try tasting close to 200 beers in one weekend all for a good cause!
Join us in Key West this Labor Day Weekend and let’s make sure to toast and give cheers to the cause and Matt Babich, the founder of Key West Brewfest!
