Key Lime Pie: We celebrate it every day!

It’s nice to see a national day to celebrate our tasty, tangy-sweet, and most beloved citrus dessert, the Key Lime Pie. Here in Key West, we celebrate all things Key Lime 365 days. We had a chance to catch up with David Sloan, author of The Key West Key Lime Pie Cookbook and Key Lime Pie: An Intriguing History of Key West’s Native Dessert, and founder of the Key Lime Festival, to find out who he thinks has the best Key Lime Pie in Key West! Here’s what he had to say.

Red Shoe Island Bistro

My new favorite is Red Shoe Island Bistro, located in Bahama Village. We met during the Key Lime Festival, and their pie is divine. Perfect crust and they zest and squeeze their own Key limes. This delivers a flavorful pie that leans on the tart side. They have a lavender cheesecake that is equally addictive.

Conch Republic Seafood Co.

I go to Conch Republic Seafood Co. for their Royal Red shrimp, but I can’t leave without a slice of their Key lime pie. The cashew nut crust and raspberry key lime drizzle put the perfect twist on the classic.

Key lime pie is yellow, but the best way to find your favorite is to stroll down Greene Street. The Key Lime Pie Bakery and Key West Key Lime Pie Co. both serve up tasty pies, and you can finish up with Key Lime Pie on a stick dipped in chocolate from the iconic Kermit Carpenter at Kermit’s Key West Key Lime Shoppe. Nothing tastes better while enjoying a stroll along the Historic Seaport.

Southernmost Beach Cafe

And of course, no place can claim people devour their pies faster than Southernmost Beach Resort. The pie at Southernmost Beach Cafe is so good that the National Key Lime Pie Eating Championships are held there. The 2022 Key Lime Pie Eating Contest winner was Key West’s Chris Shultz, consuming a 9-inch Key Lime pie in 1 minute and 14 seconds. The 2023 Key Lime Festival dates are June 30-July 4th.
